On Thursday April 23rd 2026, we had a visit from Lorraine Flanagan who is a Green-Schools travel officer. Lorraine spoke to the Green-School Committee about air quality and speed on our roads. We did an interesting experiment where we measured the CO2 in the classroom before, during and after everyone did some exercise. We compared the results with the air quality outside using monitors which Lorraine had brought along. Lorraine taught us a great deal about particulate matter and how it impacts the air quality.

We then measured the speed of fifty cars travelling past our school for fifteen minutes using a speed gun. We loved monitoring the speed the cars were travelling at and enjoyed checking out the results. The overall average speed was 53km/hour. The fastest car was travelling at 68km/hr in the 50km/hr zone.

Thanks to Lorraine for travelling down to see us and helping us learn more about travel matters in our local area!
